Queen Eleanor by Frederick Sandys (1858)

Eleanor of Aquitaine (c. 1124-1204) is one of the most famous women of the medieval era. She has been portrayed in over a dozen movies, perhaps most famously by Katharine Hepburn in The Lion in Winter (1968).
